I’m a little confused about the origin of the #challengeaccepted movement but I stand with both: bring more awareness to the Istanbul Convention and #womensupportingwomen Thank you to the women I admire who nominated me and to all the women out there who continue to pave the way for the rest of us. ♥️ #istanbulconventionsaveslives #womenempowerment

(3/3) So, I’m sorry that I’m being a little selfish and sharing the shipwreck of emotions that I’ve been going through, but if you’ve made it this far, thank you. Happy Belated Olympic Day everyone, and don’t let anyone tell you that your dreams are stupid or unachievable (*you might pay for them greatly, but hopefully, I’ll be able to tell you I’m back to skating pain-free after this effing PAO).♥️

(2/3) not naturally an extrovert, but that she felt lonely during quarantine. These past two weeks have been the best living hell of my life. I remind myself every day that training those last two years going into the 2018 Olympics felt like a live or die situation. I was pushing through pain where I knew that I needed to get surgery afterwards, but I also didn’t think that I could physically survive what I mentally went through in 2014 again. So, I trained every day like it was the last day of my life. And when I walked into the surgery at the Steadman clinic in 2018, I thought, I’m ready for this surgery and to skate without pain again. The thing was, I wasn’t getting better, but again, I kept pushing myself over and over and I’d ask if the feelings I was having were normal. For the most part, I kept being told that I was rushing back to recovery, which was probably true, but there was always this nagging feeling in me that told me it wasn’t right. I’d tap for flips and lutzes and jolts of pain, way worse than what I was dealing with before would shoot down my leg. Fast forward to two weeks ago when I went through my second hip surgery, a periacetabular osteotomy or a PAO, similar to the one a colleague of mine, Caroline Zhang, went through sometime in 2015. I was told I was dysplastic, which explains my flexibility. I think a lot of figure skaters have a lot of hip issues, which is something that isn’t often talked about in our community. The pain of this surgery makes my labral surgery feel like a breeze in the park. Currently, my toilet has handles because I can’t even take a sh*t without help. I want to say that the Olympics were well worth the commitment, but some days, especially during recent nights, the pain makes me question everything, but I think back on the adrenaline pumping through me after I skated in the team event and how powerful I felt after accomplishing something I spent days crying over. When I think back on it, I can’t even comprehend that I was able to accomplish going to the Olympics, not just once but twice.

(1/3) First off, I’m that kid who’s always one or two days late to everything, but if you’ve noticed that I’ve been off social, it’s been on purpose. I haven’t been blind to the many events that have been going on in the world, and I needed time to process all of it. I think that, above all else, I’ve had so much learning that I’ve needed to do, and so as I return to social media, please feel free to spark conversations and comment because I still need to continue to educate myself. Two days ago, it was Olympic day, and I think that I’ve been immune to the importance of how special that day is. It took me hours and years of work that are full of memories, good and bad. I told my boyfriend that that I went to two Olympics and because I was still basically a fetus at my first one, he told me that it didn’t count to be an alternate in 2014. I thought it was cute. Another reason why I didn’t post was because I think that because I’m surrounded by so many great Olympians, my natural reaction is to think, “Meh, I’m not better than anyone else because I’m an Olympian. I don’t need to celebrate.” But, the truth of the matter is that it took everything out of me to go to the Olympics, and even though I landed the triple axel like I wanted, the perfectionist in me sees that I only landed one out of the three and I still wish I could change back time to figure out what I could have done to change those results. That’s probably the athlete in me. That’s the everyday expectation that I hold myself to that can spiral me into anxiety and depression. I see it in my peers’ posts as well and to see them be able to talk about it and to talk about how we’re not alone in this anxiety has given me the courage to talk about my own journey. Through reading about @emilyinfeld ‘s post where she talks about feeling selfish for talking about her own struggles when there’s so much going on and what it feels like to go through another injury. She went through the same labral surgery at around the same time that I had mine and we had passed by each other regularly during our recovery at the OTC. Another inspiring one has been reading @lolojones ’ talk about how she’s not (cont.)

THIS IS IMPORTANT- Have you and your family completed the #2020Census yet? May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month and a good reminder to make sure we’re all counted! It will help determine how U.S. federal funding is distributed our local communities for the next 10 years - like school, roads, hospitals. and more! Go to MY2020CENSUS.GOV now to complete the census today. Make sure you remind your parents and family as well! @uscensusbureau #ad

I met someone who wanted me to share an initiative that is equally important to me as @powerof10initiative is and I truly commend Lauren for reaching out to me. Not only is she balancing school and skating, she’s giving back to the community. That’s not something that I had the mental capacity to do at her age.Check oclove.org for more! ♥️ • Also, so proud of my childhood best friend @ellie.kawamura for teaching the younger generations to be such good Samaritans (she coaches @lauten.ahn )♥️👯‍♀️🙆🏻‍♀️

EDIT: it’s going to be in 2020, not 2030 😂 Hey guys, I’ve been keeping my sanity by staying connected and taking as many dance classes as possible before we return to the ice. Hopefully, it’ll help expand the styles I feel confident with. • I’ve been taking classes with @alexblitstein who has experience teaching at @bdcnyc and @officialdadance as well as credits with J.Lo, Glee, and AGT. I thought it would be so fun to offer a zoom class this Saturday 5/23 from 1-2 pm PST. • Class will be $15 and can be purchased from my site mirainagasuskates.com (link will be in bio) • All proceeds will go to @powerof10initiative • Regardless of whether you’re a dancer or a skater, dance is for everyone, so come and join us! 👯‍♀️♥️

So excited that my @fabfitfun and Special Olympics Summer 2020 box has arrived. As a #fabfitfunpartner I got to choose some of the products, and during this period of social distancing, self care is especially important. I’m ready to try out all of the new skin care products that come with an array of positive reviews. I especially love the @toms sunglasses because of their “One for one” philosophy. Special Olympics and @fabfitfun are dedicated to helping athletes and families stay active while training and competitions are postponed. Use my code “MIRAI” for $10 off your first box at fabfitfun.com ♥️ • #athomewithfff #fabfitfun

Highlighting #makenoisetoday • To see the number of Asian Americans breaking down barriers in mainstream media makes me so proud, especially when I was taught to face adversity by putting my head down and working even harder. • Regardless of your background, be a noisemaker and share your story! @makenoisetoday

I’ve been following @nextshark and seeing some great articles that invoke good and bad emotions. Something that’s super relatable is the clip from @steveaoki ‘s @netflix documentary “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” where he talks about his mom telling him to shrug things off and stay out of trouble. This is something my parents always told me, particularly in 2014, if you know what I mean. I also remember meeting an ex-boyfriend’s grandparents and being told that I was pretty for an Asian and wondering if that was meant to be a compliment. Also, meeting his parents and jokingly being greeted in Chinese and having to explain to them that I wasn’t Chinese and that I was a different type of “Asian.” • Growing up with immigrant parents but representing @teamusa I always wondered what that really meant, so I’m really proud that I’ve found a group of people with whom I really relate to. Since May is Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month, I’m hoping to highlight different groups who are doing so much for our community. • Today, I want to highlight @hateisavirus_ who helped me really bring my parent’s story to video format. Make sure you sign up for their virtual rally or buy a shirt because the proceeds go towards supporting small businesses. • Fun fact: I also skated with one of the founders when I was younger, so seeing my peers doing cool things makes me so proud. Here’s to you @mkhanabusa founder of @weareuprisers__ and @hateisavirus_ for making me proud to be Japanese American. 🇺🇸♥️🇯🇵

Huge thanks to @hateisavirus_ for helping me continue to share the @sushikiyosuzu story and @powerof10initiative 🍣 I also want to highlight #HATEISAVIRUS which is a movement to combat racism and xenophobia against Asians fueled by COVID-19. Asian-owned businesses are reporting a drop of up to 80% due to such misinformation. A few ways you can help: https://linktr.ee/hateisavirus_ RSVP to #RaiseAMillion Virtual Rally + Event Series: Saturday, May 23rd Donate directly to the #HATEISAVIRUS relief fund and help reach the $250K goal. I am so excited to announce that the @Powerof10Initiative is going to be able to continue feeding front-line and community members in need, thanks to the support of @CapitalOne. I’m excited to be a #fabfitfunpartner and help announce their collab with the Special Olympics on their Summer 2020 box. FabFitFun is donating $10 to Special Olympics (through June 15) for each person who signs up using my code MIRAILOVES (it’ll also get you $10 off your first box) at www.fabfitfun.com  As we experience the impact of COVID-19, FabFitFun’s partnership with Special Olympics is especially important because people with intellectual disabilities are one of the most vulnerable groups to feelings of isolation and health complications due to limited access to quality and affordable health care. With physical distancing in effect, Special Olympics is helping athletes and their families stay active and engaged while sports training, competitions, and opportunities to build meaningful connections through sport are postponed. I haven’t gotten my summer box yet but I’m so excited to see what @fabfitfun goodies are in there that I can use during quarantine! 🌸

I remember the days of, “Welcome to @sushikiyosuzu how can I help you,” and thinking that no one else had to do the same chores that I did. I guess I underestimated the quality of food I was getting fed. I will skate for food because I understand the concept of making a dishes like this but can’t make it like my dad. #lafoodie #lafood

A huge thank you to @vossworld for donating 1,000 waters to our @powerof10initiative so our healthcare workers don’t go thirsty. We’ve raised $10k in the last two days which means we can sustain a restaurant for another week. My parents have never participated in something as big as this and I think you can tell from the smiles on their faces that they’re loving it. Thank you all so much! Please keep spreading the word! (And in case you were wondering, you’re looking at some yummy looking salmon bowls) #beatcovid19

Hi guys, Hope everyone is staying safe during quarantine. I’m reaching out in hopes that you’ll spare a second to look at this initiative that I’ve partnered up with. @powerof10initiative With the help of Power of 10, I’ve been able to help my parents find an alternative to a PPP loan, since a lot of the money has been going to bigger companies. With angel donations, we’re able to help provide 1,000 meals a week to healthcare workers. This week my parents are making meals for the @mhfoundation @foothillunitycenter @ayc100 We’re looking to spread awareness so we can expand in the LA area. Please help spread the word and if you can, please donate. Anything helps. Link in bio. Let me know if you donate as I’ll try to give a shoutout or reply to everyone who does! Thank you! #powerof10
